Just the Ticket
JUST THE TICKET PROJECT
For this project we worked with 7 - 11 year olds in schools and youth groups in the West Midlands. Taking the form of a one day workshop we explored the ways in which we use bus travel and public transport through games, discussions, role play and art making. These activities culminated in using printing and collage techniques to create an extra large picture that every child in the group contributed to. The picture was then photographed digitally and reproduced in miniature on the backs of tickets for busses in the local area.
Positive outcomes include:
- Targeting young people with a positive message about bus travel increases awareness of public transport as a sociable and environmentally friendly way of getting around.
- Presenting this message within a structured day of activities will provide an opportunity to think seriously about how to behave safely and responsibly on busses.
- Communities who use bus travel regularly will be able to see artwork by their own children in the schools and youth groups where workshops have taken place.
- Encouraging an artistic response to an everyday situation will foster creativity amongst young people.
- Seeing their own work exhibited in such an accessible way will add to young people’s self esteem and a feeling of pride in their community.
- The creation of a resource pack developed in collaboration with Travel West Midlands. This will highlight the issues mentioned above and be left with teachers and youth group leaders.
